South Asian Disasters
There is an excellent and highly detailed summary of centuries worth of disasters in the South Asian area at Faneufy's Truth, if you are interested:
Before Sunday's 9.0 earthquake, there were at least 5 previous earthquakes above 7.0 in the region since January 1, 2004, most with some loss of life. I would say this qualifies as a pretty active fault zone, geologically speaking. Since we can assume that the death toll from last Sunday's earthquake, and tsunami will continue to rise, even conservatively adding up the loss of life for the last 200 years we can come up with a total of at least 300,000. Remember, that this number only represents the number of people that have actually been counted.
