Ohhhhh, Perspective
Madigan writes at Dean's World:
If we trusted the news we read in the papers or see on TV, we'd believe that the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) is the only Muslim advocacy group in America. There's lots more, including quotes and tons of links. The point here is excellent. Assessed as group, Muslims in America have a low crime rate and spend incredibly small amounts of their time running around abusing other people and plotting evil. So to everyone who has about convinced him or herself that the religion of Islam is evil, come down off the soapbox and start looking around. The facts don't bear the hypothesis out.
If we trusted those sources, we'd be wrong. The Islamic Supreme Council of America (ISCA) is a Muslim advocacy group that is "dedicated to differentiating the majority of peace-loving, moderate Muslims in the world from the handful of extremists who mar the beautiful image of Islam."
In 2002, the ISCA opposed House Resolutions HR 2357 and HR 2931 which would permit churches and other houses of worship to engage in political campaigns.

Daniel Pipes is into the ISCA. The following was found on his site, "In his writings, Pipes praises the Islamic Supreme Council of America (ISCA), which openly opposes what it calls "Islamic extremism" and has long been critical of the Saudi regime for exporting its militant ideology throughout the Muslim world."
That's a totally fair distinction, Tom. I support more careful scrutiny of those requesting visas and so forth, or investigation of any radicalized pockets.
I'm just protesting at so many blanket depictions of Muslims (especially around blogville) as all radicals. It isn't true, and I think insisting it is would be more likely to create such a situation than anything else.
