Marines And Others

Marine Corps Times article:
The Marines traveling inside a lightly armored amphibious assault vehicle were killed when they hit a massive roadside bomb. Their AAV flipped into the air, exploding in a giant fireball near Haditha, about 140 miles northwest of Baghdad.

A civilian translator was also killed, and only one Marine on the vehicle survived. The troops killed were assigned to Regimental Combat Team-2, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, which has been launching multiple offensives across western Anbar in a bid to cut off insurgents active along the Euphrates River Valley.

Earlier this week, a group of six other Marines on sniper duty were killed in action in the same area. Two other Marines have been killed this week — one by a car bomb, the other by small arms fire.
Another one on the situation:
The Marines have one of the roughest assignments in Iraq: pacifying the perpetually restive Anbar province, home to Fallujah, Ramadi and Haditha, all sites of heavy American casualties since the insurgency went into high gear last year.

Underscoring the heavy load, the Marines have taken casualties disproportionate to their numbers in Iraq.

Marines number more than 23,000 out of 138,000 members of the U.S. armed forces in Iraq, or 17 percent. Yet they have lost at least 530 of the more than 1,820 U.S. personnel who have died there, or 29 percent, Marine officials said.
Black Anthem's links page is pretty good.
Canada Free Press on "The Trouble With Jimmy Carter":
Jimmy Carter, the peanut farmer and former U.S. President, has a huge problem: his mouth. The things emanating from that orifice are bizarre in the extreme, considering that Carter was arguably the worst president in the history of the United States. His most recent foot-in-mouth episode involves his running commentary on George W. Bush’s veracity and the "atrocities" committed by American soldiers in the war on terrorism. Carter maintains that had the U.S. not waged war against the Taliban who were sponsors of Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network, or deposed Saddam Hussein, then the Islamic terrorists would have no excuse for attacking the West.
And even the Chinese have noticed that the French are growing a set with regard to Iran's nuclear activities.
