RomanWanderer On Bag Searches

I suppose this is really RomanWanderer on bag search objectors, but it is a great post:
I have a feeling that those who complain don't know what we're up against. They live in a world of black and white. If the faucet drips, the plumber will fix it. If the boss harasses you, a lawsuit will console you. Everything is fine, just as long as nobody touches your handbag.
I think she nailed it.

I have no sympathy for people that don't want to be searched. I get searched everytime I go to work, sometimes multiple times. I guess the fact that I gain access to the cockpit with my charming personality (that and my ID card) doesn't really matter.
I believe most Americans are in denial. They just don't it.
I only ride the train on weekends, but I take a packed city bus to and from work every day, and no controls I made. I'm sure the driver checks the empty bus before leaving the station, but during the route people just step on and squeeze in.
Tommy - it's really hard for me to understand what people are thinking when they are complaining about the security measures.

To put it bluntly, if they don't make the NY subways a tougher target what happened in London IS going to happen here.

As for searching you before you get in the cockpit, I think that's a good idea. And they should also make you guys wear mood rings. (Just kidding!)

SC&A - isn't the correct clinical term "nuts"?
Actually, 'freakin nuts' is a better descriptor.
RW - I think there are some plans eventually for searches on buses and on trains, but I'm not sure whether that's just for longer trips.

It does seem to me that it's an obvious target.

SC&A - I have no idea how you keep track of all that technical jargon, but I will defer to your expertise. Freakin' nuts it is.
I have no problem being searched by I do think some kind of profiling needs to be done. It's just silly otherwise. I've always said, that if one day I fit the profile, that short 30-something Jewish girls are committing all the terrorist acts, I would gladly surrender for inspection. They need to be smart about these things. Ask Israel... and El Al.
Esther - I think I have read that they will be profiling to some extent. After all, a woman in light clothing and carrying a clutch purse is not going to be blowing up the bus. A man in bulky clothing or carrying a backpack presents a different set of risks.

But I also think they have to be careful about just searching young men who "look" like they might be Muslim, because if that becomes the rule the terrorists will use those who don't or use (flinch) younger kids as they have done in Israel.
