It's A Time Warp

Sound familiar? There's a hurricane heading for Florida. Voices have been raised saying that New Orleans is in danger. Local officials don't seem quite prepared to take this seriously. Cindy Sheehan tears into a politician for supporting the war in Iraq, demands a meeting and threatens the politician's career.

Only it's September 19, 2005. The hurricane is Rita. The politician is Hillary Clinton.

Start with Clinton:
Ms. Sheehan told a packed audience in a Brooklyn church that Mrs. Clinton "knows the war is a lie" but because of her political ambitions refuses to voice any opposition.

Mrs. Clinton is "waiting for the best political moment to say" she opposes the war, Ms. Sheehan said during a 15-minute speech. "You say it or you're losing your job," she said, provoking a roar of approval from the audience.
...
Ms. Sheehan said she has requested a meeting with Mrs. Clinton but has not gotten a reply.
...
She also seemed to broaden her stance against America's military presence in Iraq to an opposition to war in general, saying, "We want to make sure it never happens again." She said she was motivated not just by the grief caused by the death of her 24-year-old son Casey, a soldier killed in Baghdad in April 2004, but by an effort to save the world's children.

"The children of the world are not safe," she said. "We have to do it for them."
I see. And leaving the Iraqis to the "freedom fighters" who blow up Shiite children, mosques and people standing in line to get work is the best thing you can do for them? Words completely fail me.

Rita is on a course toward Florida and the Gulf. I don't know about you, but this makes me very nervous:

Especially when I read about Mayor Nagin wanting to bring people back in to New Orleans, and yelling at those who recommend caution. This now includes Bush. I am sure that Cindy Sheehan knows that all this is Bush's fault, but the rest of us are feeling doubt:
Mayor Ray Nagin, under mounting pressure to rescind his decision to let people in, defended the move and complained that the federal official in charge in New Orleans, Coast Guard Vice Adm. Thad Allen, had made himself "the new crowned federal mayor of New Orleans."
...
In Washington, President Bush on Monday questioned the plan to let people back in, saying there is "deep concern" about the possibility that Tropical Storm Rita, which was headed toward the Florida Keys, could head into the Gulf of Mexico and drop more rain on New Orleans. He said he has been warned that the city's levees would be breached again if that happened.
...
"The mayor _ you know, he's got this dream about having a city up and running, and we share that dream," Bush said. "But we also want to be realistic about some of the hurdles and obstacles that we all confront in repopulating New Orleans."
Bush made it clear he is supporting Vice Admiral Allen. There are also the minor technical details about no water fit for drinking or washing, no 911 service, no garbage pickup, no hospitals, no ambulances, poor fire-fighting capabilities, etc. This is like one of those old sci-fi stories in which people get stuck in a time warp and have to live the same events over and over again until they figure out how to do it right.

It's actually possible that Bush may have to invoke federal powers within a week that have never been invoked before. There will be a constitutional crisis if he does. Cindy Sheehan will be calling for the UN to save us from ChimpyBushWarMongerer, and Sharpton and Jackson will be trying to dart in front of the cameras.

Beam me up, Scotty. My universal translator must be on the fritz. This can't be happening!

Update: Howard of Oraculations covers Mayor Nagin, saying "It's a vexing problem never faced by our government other than in times of War."

Comments:
This is not looking like a brilliant cast, that's for sure.

The question is how we nullify these factors.

Forgiven me for having a bout of mad laughter, but when you let the mad dogs loose, no telling where they will bite!

Sheehan tearing into Clinton is too funny... it is just like something scripted for a comedy. How does the next episode outdo this one?

The sad thing? It's real people.

Big tactical mistake for ol' Cindy--the Clintons know how to destroy their political opponents. Expect a fade to black for the Sheehan traveling review.

Ilona, yes, this is real. But it hardly seems real. It seems like some strange parody.

Dr. Bob, at this point I think Ms. Sheehan really should spend some time under psychiatric care. She is clearly delusional if she thinks she can take down Hillary Clinton. Sheehan's "occupied New Orleans" crack already pretty much guaranteed a fade to black. Now she claims the media is persecuting her.

But remember - she still gets roars of approval from audiences!

Who are the idiots in these audiences who are cheering for this moonbat? Hillary would tear her a new one. She better watch out. On second thought, I hope Hillary does.

I think Hillary will if she tries to force the issue.

I felt sorry for Hillary. Whether you like her or not or agree with her or not, it is just as baseless for Sheehan to claim that Hillary's position on the Iraq war is taken purely for selfish reasons as Sheehan's attacks on Bush. Sheehan can have a different opinion than Hillary without assuming that Hillary's is not sincere.

What we are seeing here is the strange extremism of about 8 or 9% of the Democratic party. You wonder if they will ever allow any politicians to have their own opinions?

Isn't it clear that these hurricanes are part of the Bush plot to keep the poor down?

Darn! Why didn't I think of that!

It all makes sense now....

The BusHitler cabal is throwing hurricanes at New Orleans so that they can drive out the populace, seize their land, and establish a hegemonic control over oil shipping. Of course this has something to do with PNC. I don't know what, but I've read DU enough to know it does.
