A Reagan Sampler

Curmudgeonly & Skeptical has a sample of Reagan quotes. Try:
"The taxpayer: That's someone who works for the federal government but doesn't have to take the civil service examination."

"The nearest thing to eternal life we will ever see on this earth is a government program."
It was a refreshing change.

"It was a refreshing change."

We need that kind of change of thinking again. I don't know where it went.
In the last five years, a Republican Congress and a Republican President have rolled back all the gains made during the Conservative Revolution of 1994. Bush talks like Reagan, but he acts like Johnson.
I was having flashbacks.
I was 10 years old when Reagan left office; I had no idea how good I had it. This country has been blessed with some amazing presidents, which seem to come once every 15 - 20 years or so: Washington, Jefferson, Jackson, Lincoln, TR, FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Reagan. Don't you think we're due for another? I despise this feeling of political adriftness, it's like ideological homelessness. I never realized what an eager follower I am (or would be, if there were some leaders worth following).

Minh-Duc: Bush does talk like Reagan and act like Johnson. The problem with government is that the media and the political types shower accolades on politicians for what they spend money on, not for what they don't spend money on. If you were promised love and attention for spending money, and you had an unlimited amount of other peoples' money you could take from, would you be able to resist?
Reagan was an incredible President. His stand against the Soviet Union alone led to hundreds of millions getting a chance at a better life.

I don't think anyone will ever honestly write the story of his impact on history.
