Alito Defines Law
WaPo's transcript, Day 2, during an exchange with Graham:
I like Alito. He's scrappy and persistent when people try to fiddle with the meanings of words. I'm very happy with this nominee, although I'm sure I'll disapprove of a lot of his rulings. He's got backbone, and the court is going to need it.You say that the president has to follow every statute on the books unless the statute allows an exception for the president. Is that a fair statement? Just being president, you can't set aside the law.
ALITO: The president has to follow the law, and that means the Constitution and the laws that are enacted consistent with the Constitution.
