Lordy, Lordy

So I get home and want to find out what happened with the filibuster attempt, DU's last peaceful sacrament. (Here's the forum, and things are a little hot.) I didn't listen to NPR, because I didn't think the attempt would work, and I hate when the announcers start sobbing brokenheartedly into the microphone.

But does Chief No-Nag know how the vote came out? No. He is in a state of appalled indignation about this story (Republicans Are Racists) up at WaPo, which I kind of view as a consolation prize for DU. Self-esteem building, you know? What cracked me up about the article was that when I was a kid racism was far more common, and the Democratic party was doing a lot better. This suggests that there may be some faint problem with the analysis:
"If anyone in Washington is skeptical about these findings, they are in denial," he said. "We have 50 years of evidence that racial prejudice predicts voting. Republicans are supported by whites with prejudice against blacks. If people say, 'This takes me aback,' they are ignoring a huge volume of research."
I did enjoy watching Chief No-Nag, a dark-skinned immigrant, nearly stammering in indignation. Somehow I don't think this is how to win him back to the Democratic party! Eventually, he got eloquent.

From the "We Are Fucked" thread on the DU:

"I'm registering Independent tomorrow. You're welcome to join me."

Gee...lucky independents.

I'll give my chums the Larouchies up in Leesburg a ring and tell 'em what's heading up the pike their way.

I'm sure they'll be thrilled.

Regards;

I'm sure they'll meet them with openly-worn arms and sharpened pikes. I am rolling on the floor imagining Leesburg swamped by indignant DU'rs.

Canada didn't want them either.

My grandfather, a recent immigrant from Lebanon, met Teddy Roosevelt at a campaign stop at a local train station a long time ago. He voted Republican for the rest of his life. And so have the rest of my family, all of us Arab-Americans.

I can't stand it when Democrats pat themselves on the back for being so enlightened, ignoring the reality.

Heh. I had a friend (past tense, thankfully) who called me a racist for supporting the war on terror. I imagine she'll be reading that article soon and thinking of me. It is to laugh. Heh.

Philip, I really do understand.

Anyone with half a brain knows that poor public education is the number 1, number 2, number 3, number 4 and number 5 is the number one civil rights issue in the country today.

Chief No-Nag thinks they want to keep people poor and dependent. And then they want us to be thankful for their help. It's kind of like being slapped in the face with a rotten fish, but the Dean/Pelosi/Kerry crowd can't grasp that.

Anon, your friend interests me! Did she or he expand upon the argument? Something about Muslims find representative government offensive to their culture? That's one I've read on Common Dreams and DU a number of times.

Send CNN over- I wrote a piece on that WAPO article.

We'll soothe the soul...
