Sobering Reality

The teenaged daughter of one of my coworkers is in the hospital. They think it is the flu. She is not running that high a fever, but she is bleeding from the mouth at times. Any bad case of flu can cause this, but I sure would like to know exactly what she is infected with!

She's supposed to be getting out of the hospital soon and I have heard that she is breathing well. The whole family seems to be somewhat ill.

Any bad case of flu can causing bleeding from the mouth and throat.

Comments:
Sobering- and then some.

Tick tock, tick tock.

My big concern is that there appears to be no hue and cry insofar as preparation. This is going to come back and bite the administration in the ass.

They are going to across as the Federal government incarnation of Ray Nagin- and the dems are perfectly happy to say nothing, for the time being.

I would say we are following the pattern of other countries. "Ignorance is bliss" seems to be the H5N1 motto.

I think it is irresponsible. We appear to be doing less flu testing rather than more, and the results for last year's surveillance tests in Alaska have still not been released.

People who live in areas with a high exposure to wild birds should take heed.

PS: If you haven't gotten some Zithromax you might want to do that pronto, and don't forget your daughter.

The MSM and the Dems *are* doing preliminary responses to H5N1 -- laying the groundwork to blame it all on Bush. It *is* an election year, you know, and getting Dems into power is obviously far more important than keeping Captain Trips from going down for real.

Just like that election year a century ago in St Pierre, Martinique, when Mont Pelee started going active...

Tick. Tick. Tick.

That's true.

Some are having fits because the use of the military has been contemplated under certain contingencies, for example. Mind you, most of the countries are using their military to some extent for quarantines of culling zones for localized outbreaks.

Bush hatred is a frightening disease of the mind. Next Cheney will be accused of deliberately shooting down H5N1-infected quail over inhabited areas.

My future BIL went to the ER last week with complications from pneumonia. (Shortness of breath & friends, he's fine now.) The triage nurse paid really close attention when he told her his occupation, and visibly relaxed when he reassured her that even though he is an ornithologist, his most recent field study was last fall. (And you can't catch anything from a book except ideas.)

My problem is that I don't know what I can do except worry. I don't have time to invest in worry, because the payoffs are so small. I did check out some links at CurEvents, and may add an item a week to my Sams list. But Zithromax? How in the world would I be able to get that? Would my internist give me that Rx w/o cause? Probably not! My son's lungs are not the best, and like every other parent on the planet, I worry about my kids more than anything else.

Carson, you would have to get a prescription from your doctor.

You might find your doctor willing to cooperate.
