Ho Ho Ho, Jefferson Goes...

The things our politicians laugh about:
A congressman under investigation for bribery was caught on videotape accepting $100,000 in $100 bills from an FBI informant whose conversations with the lawmaker also were recorded, according to a court document released Sunday. Agents later found the cash hidden in his freezer.

At one audiotaped meeting, Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., chuckles about writing in code to keep secret what the government contends was his corrupt role in getting his children a cut of a communications company's deal for work in Africa.
This was an artful scam. Jefferson was supposed to use the money to bribe a Nigerian official, but instead he kept it on ice.

I won't be crying when he goes to trial. This stuff goes in waves, and I guess it's time to clean House again. Cunningham and Jefferson can have nice cells together and start a new bipartisan initiative.

Comments:
Cold cash, indeed. He kept the money in his freezer. Really.

Rememeber James 'Rug' Trafficant and 'Stamps' Rostenkowski?

I remember a news story in the aftermath of Katrina that Rep. Jefferson had a government truck make an unscheduled stop at his house in New Orleans so he could retrieve something. It seemed odd at the time -- perhaps less so now.

Actually no. Was that the stamp scandal? "Cold cash" - LOL.

Scurvyoaks, that struck me also when I read the bit about the money in the freezer.
