Save The Endangered CarObama

This gentle, rare woodlands creature is being harassed, pursued and stalked by BULLIES! Next thing you know they'll be shooting at him from planes! Where is ELF when you need them?

In the comments at Ace, someone writes my first reaction:
These are the kind of things a Community Organizer learns to say to THE MAN.

They're the words of the downtrodden.... the weak.... daring to look up into the face of the One With The Power.

Anybody else wonder what Iran's wackjob president would say if Obama said that to him, after wackjob called America "The Great Satan" ?
That's what I was picturing - the CarObama, lower lip quivering, bravely answering back "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me! You big meanie!!"

I liked the ChicagObama better, when he roustered his first opponents using legal strategies:
As a community organizer, he had helped register thousands of voters. But when it came time to run for office, he employed Chicago rules to invalidate the voting petition signatures of three of his challengers.

The move denied each of them, including incumbent Alice Palmer, a longtime Chicago activist, a place on the ballot. It cleared the way for Obama to run unopposed on the Democratic ticket in a heavily Democrat district.

"That was Chicago politics," said John Kass, a veteran Chicago Tribune columnist. "Knock out your opposition, challenge their petitions, destroy your enemy, right? It is how Barack Obama destroyed his enemies back in 1996 that conflicts with his message today. He may have gotten his start registering thousands of voters. But in that first race, he made sure voters had just one choice."
...
"He came from Chicago politics," Stewart said. "Politics ain't beanbag, as they say in Chicago. You play with your elbows up, and you're pretty tough and ruthless when you have to be. Sen. Obama felt that's what was necessary at the time, that's what he did. Does it fit in with the rhetoric now? Perhaps not."
...
Kass, the Chicago Tribune columnist, said the national media are naive when it comes to Chicago politics, which is a serious business.

He said they have bought into a narrative that Obama is strictly a reformer. The truth, Kass says, is that he is a bare-knuckled politician. And using the rules to win his first office is part of who Obama is.
Well, let's have that Obama back, because if he can't take Palin, he definitely won't be able to handle Putin. Bush tried the Mr. Sensitive tactic of staring deeply and soulfully into Putin's eyes to establish a True Bond between Real Men, and it failed.Yeah, let's have that brave Obama who doesn't do cowering back, as self-described to the NY Times:
When Mr. Wenner asked how Mr. Obama might respond to harsh attacks from Republicans, suggesting that Democrats have “cowered” in the past, Mr. Obama replied, “Yeah, I don’t do cowering.”
Okay, add sniveling to the exclusion list and the next two months will work better for us all.

Comments:
I seem to recall at the time of Bush's comment that McCain said the only thing he could see in Putin's eyes was the letters K, G, and B.

Obama's tactic for winning his first race was very much standard Chicago machine politics. You can see echoes of it in the way his team went after caucus states where votes are public and intimidation can be used.

(I can only wish that Mike Royko had lived another 15 years, so we could have seen what he would have written about Obama. See his book "Boss" for a hint of what he might have said.)

It's quite the contrast with a certain Alaska governor who first beat the corrupt incumbent governor in the primary, and then beat a former two-term governor in the general election.

John - I never heard that about McCain, but it sure is funny!

Yes, I don't think Obama is this much of a wimp. I think he's just used to blending in with the locale. However it's national now, and this isn't going to work.

Hmm. Checking around, I can't find anything where McCain said it before last year. But he has been saying that the Russians were up to no good in the Caucasus (and other regions bordering Russia) since at least 1999.

I agree that Obama is not a wimp. But he is trying to have it both ways, and he is trying to cover his tracks.

I think some of this is coming out of an idea on the Left that they lost the last two times because they didn't "fight the smears" against their candidates (aka smear the Right back). So they are determined to stop at nothing this time. The idea seems too deeply imbedded for them to let go of, even when it is to their tactical disadvantage.

I "get" Chicago politics and you have to win before you can change anything, but after he won he changed nothing. Chicago is still corrupt to its very core. Remember, Nixon actually beat Kennedy back in '60 but lost because of voter fraud in Illinois, particularly in Cook county. Nixon chose not to challenge the Illinois result perhaps knowing the corruption went all the way to the supreme courts.rafmhvj

Wow Obama is slippery, he just put a qualifier on his previous tax ambitions / backtracked

God, I am sick of this slickster

Howard - one of the puzzling things about Obama is that his voting records is so very light. He seems to have been in office mostly for the purpose of climbing the legislative ladder.

YT - So we have McCain and Obama as mirror-image supplysiders, don't we? And both of them want to cut taxes and add new spending programs. It's true Obama wants to spend more, but their numbers don't add up. I'm starting to believe that anyone who has ever run a business and made it pay would be a better presidential pick than our esteemed s_n_t_rs.

because if he can't take Palin, he definitely won't be able to handle Putin.

Argh, who gives a shit about Putin.

I'm more concerned when the next Wall Street banker comes up to him and demands more legislation designed to help his company at the expense of others and Barack responds "Y-y-y-yes sir!"
