The Gentle Wit

and delicate tact of Governor Christie of NJ.

I can hardly believe that I have to prepare for a hurricane in this part of the country. I'm going to Super Doc's tomorrow morning early to do his hurricane prep.

Most amusing earthquake prep ob ever: I was behind this young guy in the express lane in the supermarket. His purchases:
A) Three pounds of butter,
B) Package of hamburger,
C) BIG package of ribs,
D) Three cartons of eggs,
E) A pound of sugar - and nothing else.

Maybe the reason SuperDoc wants to hold office hours tomorrow morning and Monday is that he knows he'll have heart attacks to deal with!

Comments:
Eggs, Butter, Sugar and Disaster.

I cannot explain the ribs and the hamburger though. I'm not a miracle worker!

P.S. The Internet never fails to amaze me.

OK, well for some bizarre reason in some of the Midlantic states you can't buy beer in grocery stores, so the beer was missing.

Add the missing beer into the picture and you immediately realize that this was a hurricane party prep. They were going to grill.

I am guessing they planned to hard boil the eggs for later, or perhaps make breakfast by frying them on the grill.

I certainly hope that Irene breaks up, because somehow I do not think that many in this area have the slightest idea of what to do.

PS: But apparently they will not run short of protein. Water, perhaps, but not protein.

There's certainly reason to celebrate.

It's not like the windows boarded up due to the recession need to be boarded up again! Sigh.

Not that any of us regulars would think anything, but you might want to rephrase the last two words of your first sentence.

We don't do hurricanes here in the Great Northwest (Minnesota), but the tornado did miss us by two blocks earlier this summer.

It's interesting how folks react to the different kinds of natural disasters.

Gordon - it took me quite a while to get it!

Just shows you how far it was from my mind. I did, indeed, "do him". The windows are taped, the equipment is all down and stowed against interior walls, wrapped in waterproof material.

Rephrasing in progress, laughing very hard.

Also, any part of the country can have tornadoes. I'm fatalistic about them.

Gordon & MOM,

Confession time!!

"Not that any of us regulars would think anything, but you might want to rephrase the last two words of your first sentence." - Gordon (8:06 AM)

"Gordon - it took me quite a while to get it!" - MOM (1:14 PM)

Hahaha!

I read Gordon's comment somewhere between 1:00 PM and 1:30 PM. I could not solve the mystery! Is it possible that I was working on the mystery just after MOM fixed it?

I figured that maybe Gordon was talking to me from the previous comment.

"There's certainly reason to celebrate."

Most would argue that hurricanes should not be reasons to celebrate. But why two words? Why not just one? I knew I must be missing something.

This fool opted to keep his mouth shut and await further information.

"Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise;
when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent." - Solomon

In hindsight, my feeble solution was about as far away from "do him" as it could possibly be, lol.

Okay, I admit it, I have a dirty mind.

Blame it on Bill Maher. I watched an episode of his talk show about ten years ago. The guests were William Shatner and that hawt South African actress whose name I can't remember.

Maher said, "Teenage boys want to be you" (pointing to Shatner) "and do you," (pointing to the actress).
It was funny, in context. And thus my mind was warped.

Gordon - I do not buy your explanation. To me it seems a crystal clear case of reading while male. That's why I bothered to change it. It seemed like false advertising to 50% of the human race.

Unlike Maureen Dowd I do not hold men being male against the breed, although they are unfathomable to us real humans. It is good that humans are not telepaths.

To my knowledge, no female has ever reacted to the threat of a bad storm by driving around the countryside demanding quickies, although perhaps men would be happier if women did. Much happier.

"It is good that humans are not telepaths."

But picture the FOMC meetings!

Warning: Clip is from the movie Scanners. Not suitable for all audiences.

I'm not sure we can rule out that the women and children have completely left town, leaving the men-folk left to fend for themselves. However, if there are women remaining I expect that the eggs are going to be<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O3i1zdSYmBo>deviled.</a>

Word verification: lunchena (it's AI testing I tell ya)

Hey, guys and gals. I'm alive.

No power, no phones, no nothing. Do not expect frequent posts under these circumstances.

I had been wondering. I has to be a bit irritating to hear from all the poeple who couldn't wait to yell "Oh, it was all hype!"

MOM,

Welcome back!

MOM,

Good to hear from you. Here's hoping power returns soon.
