What People Don't Know About Politics

Gallup is not exactly a right-wing organization. Here is their time series of the conservative-moderate-liberal split in the US:

And for those who don't understand the touchy-feely thang about the RNC, reading this Pew survey on political knowledge might be an eye-opener. A large segment of the population is pretty ignorant regarding politics.

Comments:

This is probably in part because I watched very little of the convention coverage, but I thought the most effective piece of video came after Romney's speech. His grandkids and Ryan's kids were all playing with the balloons, throwing them, competing to see who could pick up the most, running back and forth and just playing, with the adults completely unconcerned about it. No way that was scripted, other than maybe "yes, NOW you can play with the balloons".

Is this important? Nope. But the scene was entirely normal, happy, and at ease, which is exactly the feeling that Romney needs to get across. At this point, most of the "undecideds" are going to vote or not based on these kinds of emotional responses.

Neil - yes, they are. A large part of the push on the final night was to convey the message that the situation wasn't completely hopeless.

A lot of voters feel completely stymied. Government confers protection against the eveeels of Big Gulp sodas, but can't afford to pay us our Social Security any more. Essentially, we are living a farce.

I took the test.

I got all 11 right. Unbelievable.

I don't enjoy politics and I'm not a big fan of either party. I did not expect to score well. I had to rely on stereotypes at least once. Go figure.

How would you describe your political views?

Moderate. It's nice to see that I shall soon be an endangered species. Sigh.

That chart is at least as depressing to me as my charts appear to be to you, lol. Sigh.

Seriously. Sigh.

56% were liberal to moderate!

I got an 8. I didn't think Romney was Pro-Life, would expel illegals, or dis-allow gay marriage. In fact, I still don't. :-)

I got all 11 right which is no shock since I'm a political junkie. I do think that Romney will govern as a moderate. There's a fascinating rumor that the Obamas are buying a house in Hawaii. link here

Yeah and I used to work with a guy that said the UN never passed any resolutions against Iran. People are capable of turning a blind eye to things that don't fit in with their point of view. Just witness the current crop of Dems that think the economy is just fine.
